After the success of a trial event earlier this year hosted by Spanish marketing agency Comuniqualis and media group Vocento, Digital DUMBO is returning to the city for the second edition of Digital DUMBO Valencia.

Over 25 companies offer internet access in Spain and 70% of the population will be online by 2015. The country is ranked 5th in Europe in time spent online, with ecommerce revenues increasing 34% year-over-year in 2010. However, Spain is ranked just 24th in Europe in the size of its digital economy.

Digital DUMBO Co-Founder and Chief Executive Organizer, Andrew Zarick, will be in attendance. Zarick says of the event,

“Earlier this year we had the opportunity to bring the culture of Digital DUMBO to Spain and to Valencia. In New York and in the United States we are fortunate to have a strong digital and private equity community. Spain is several years behind us and in many ways lacks access to private funding to expedite innovation. It’s important to have events like Digital DUMBO in Spain and elsewhere to help people make valuable professional connections that lead to digital innovation and commerce. We see Digital DUMBO as the platform for doing so. We’re excited to work towards better connecting digital communities by taking our event and platform to other cities.”

In New York, Digital DUMBO has hosted events with major technology companies including AOL, AT&T, Google, and Bing. The event has received press coverage in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, Mediapost and more.

Digital DUMBO Valencia will be hosted at XL Playground (Groovelives Group) Gran Vía Germanías 21 / Cádiz at 20:00h on November 3rd. Speakers will be present from leading Spanish digital companies including SEO and Online Marketing agency Searchmedia, augmented reality technology provider eDiam Sistemas, and knowledge sharing platform Favmonster.

We have all been using the Internet for the last decade and discovered loads of interesting contents and beneficial tools that have helped us both in our personal and professional life.

At the same time, we have also built contact networks by using social sites such as facebook, twitter, linkedin, myspace, youtube, flickr, etc.

We have the knowledge and we have the networks, what we need is to put them both together and start sharing, to get real benefit from the people you know.

About Digital DUMBO

Digital DUMBO was founded in January of 2009 to raise awareness and foster business for the DUMBO neighbourhood of Brooklyn and the Greater New York City technology community. This is done through collaborative efforts with local organizations, companies and individuals to showcase local talent, educate the community, and facilitate idea exchange.

The organization has hosted over 25 events and has grown into a community of over 7,000 members. More recently, programming has expended to include a workshop series and partnering with local digital community organizers to host international events.

The Story

Since its founding in January of 2009, Digital DUMBO has seen tremendous growth. Quickly approaching a community size of nearly 10,000 digital influencers, this year we as organizers have been focused on creating additional value for our community. Our monthly events have proven to create lasting business and personal relationships, resulting in revenue growth for the businesses that attend and even a couple Craigslist Missed Connections for the singles in the crowd. Beyond the connections that our events have created, we’ve been actively reaching out to and working with partners that we think both benefit and fit with the organic makeup of the Digital DUMBO community. One of these partners is Brooklyn Industries.

Earlier this year, we met with Brooklyn Industries and began discussing the potential of collaborating on the design of a Digital DUMBO t-shirt. At the time, Brooklyn Industries had recently relocated to DUMBO from the Brooklyn Navy Yard and had just opened a new retail store on Front St. We could have gone through the usual channels to create a t-shirt, but we wanted to do something special for our community by working with not only a Brooklyn company, but a DUMBO company, and a company that actively engages the local community in art, clothing, design and style. Fortunately, they were into the idea of a Brooklyn Industries and Digital DUMBO collaborative t-shirt and agreed to work with us.

After a few weeks of brainstorming followed by design revisions, we agreed on a design that we not only felt represented the Digital DUMBO community but also DUMBO as a whole. Until now, neither Digital DUMBO nor DUMBO had a t-shirt to call its own. The shirt features elements of DUMBO’s digital fabric, using a mouse to create a D and the outline of an iPad for the U, but also prominent DUMBO landmarks like a pillar from the Manhattan bridge to create an M, and the clocktower atop of the old Robert Gair cardboard warehouse on Main St. for the O. And, of course, the bicycle to represent the over 8,000 people that commute to and from DUMBO on a daily basis for the B.

We hope that our community and those that have had the opportunity to experience DUMBO, whether as a resident, commuter, artist or tourist, will be proud to wear this shirt and this design.
