About the Speaker
Araceli Camargo-Kilpatrick received her MA in English from Kings College London and from there went on to create the first innovation space in London called THECUBE. She is currently researching neurology and the plasticity of the brain. She is also exploring energy and quantum physics in an aim to understand how the brain works, how we perceive things, and how to encourage success in the idea implementation process.

After successfully hosting two international events in Spain in 2011, Digital DUMBO is heading back to Europe on June 20th to host dd:London, a forum for New York companies to meet digital
innovators from the UK. Digital DUMBOʼs first appearance in London will coincide with Le Web on June 19th and 20th.

Digital DUMBO was founded in 2009 as a networking party for the DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) neighborhood of Brooklyn, an area with a high concentration of innovative digital companies, agencies and start-ups, comparable to East London and Shoreditch in the UK.

As the global economy rapidly changes from one of “processing atoms to processing bits,” disrupting full industries and transforming the global marketplace, Digital DUMBO is working to connect communities of digital thought leaders and innovators around the world to stay ahead of this evolution through events, and soon, an online platform.

dd:London will feature a panel discussion on the importance of paying attention to and understanding the global digital economy and conclude with a networking after party, giving companies from New York and London, the US and the UK, the opportunity to get to know one another.

Announcing – dd:IMPACT Conference

Over the past three years Digital DUMBO has grown from a small happy hour event into a premier community of over 9,000 digital thought leaders. As time has passed, we’ve seen Digital DUMBO transform from what was largely a DUMBO-based community to one that now includes people from all walks of life, professions, industries and locations, while still maintaining the spirit of innovation and culture that has become synonymous with DUMBO.

One of the most common questions we get is “Am I digital? Can I come to your events?” We jokingly respond “Do you have a cell phone? Do you have a laptop? You’re digital.” The fact of that matter is: We’re all digital. Digital is fundamentally disrupting, evolving, and progressing every business, every industry and our lifestyles.

Earlier this year, as we explored what was next for Digital DUMBO, our beliefs around “digital” became the basis of our brainstorming. As a starting point, we reached out to a few friends who we thought would add interesting perspectives and insight in developing the vision – Carrot Creative, AptNo7, The Couch Sessions, and Midnight Brunch. We’ve all been to or produced events and conferences in the past and have experienced the good, bad, and the ugly. If we were going to commit to doing a conference, we wanted to do something that embodied the culture of the Digital DUMBO community and facilitated open dialogue and discussion.

This led us to the concept of the digital-meets-lifestyle conference we’re proud to announce today: dd:IMPACT. The dd:IMPACT conference will be a half-day exploration of how digital has disrupted, evolved, progressed, and impacted key areas of lifestyle – music, food, fashion, and design.

Through our events we’ve had the opportunity to meet some amazing people. We’ve invited many of these industry leaders to participate on our panels. They represent brands like foursquare, Warby Parker, Foodspotting, Etsy, HypeMachine, Tasting Table, Brooklyn Industries, Svpply, Holstee, and more.

Three years and 36 events later, we’ve been absolutely amazed by our growth – from 40 people in a bar to a community of over 8,500 professionals. This growth has in large part happened completely organically, with the support of some amazing host sponsors along the way.

As organizers, we make an effort to put our community on a pedestal and keep a low profile, but make no mistake, it takes hustle and persistance to make Digital DUMBO happen month in and month out. We’ve made our fair share of mistakes along the way, but we do our best to deliver a high quality event each month – an event that we hope our community looks forward to attending.

In order to continue serving our community at the highest level possible and after much deliberation, we’ve decided to institute a nominal ticket fee for attending Digital DUMBO.

The decision to do so was made for these key reasons:

1) Quality of Community

We’re biased, but we believe that some of the most talented, influential, and interesting people in the New York tech community attend Digital DUMBO. We want to ensure that this continues to be the case. A nominal ticket fee is a small price to pay for access to this community. It’s our belief that if you are unwilling to do so, you likely don’t have an interest in networking or growing your business. We want attendees that have a genuine interest in engaging and being a part of our community.

2) Quality of Event

As our community has grown, so too has the cost to produce our marquee monthly event. We need adequate capital to ensure that we are not only consistently delivering a good product for both our community and our sponsors, but also working to invest and improve our event.

3) Growth

Our monthly event has become a flagship event not just for DUMBO, but also for the New York tech community. We’ll continue to do this event, but we have a vision for Digital DUMBO that extends well beyond our monthly event, and even beyond DUMBO and New York City. We look forward to sharing these plans with you in the near future. Supporting our vision through ticket sales helps us succeed in executing this vision and our mission.

Without a loyal community, we wouldn’t be where we are today. For those of you that have been with us since the beginning, you’ll remember that Digital DUMBO hasn’t always been free. At our early events both companies and individuals volunteered to buy rounds of drinks. It’s this camaraderie that’s moved Digital DUMBO forward. Now, we need your help yet again in helping us get to our next stage of growth.
